Traditional American Modal Jazz has many influences and connections to other previous generations and cultures of music. On this website, you can find information on how Jazz culture inherits traits from Classical Music. This website uses two examples: ‘So What’ by Miles Davis, showing how American Modal Jazz has links to Classical Music, using Beethoven’s Credo movement from his Missa Solemnis.

 

The links that you will find on this website is how the Dorian Mode is used in both pieces, linking modal jazz to the use of different modes in the Classical Era, and the use of homophony in traditional modal jazz and classical music.
